Carla de Paiva Bezerra is Director of Digital Participation and Network Communication at the General Secretariat of the Brazilian Presidency of the Republic, where she is responsible for the Brasil Participativo Platform (brasilparticipativo.presidencia.gov.br). She received her PhD in Political Science from the University of São Paulo and has worked both as a practitioner, as a federal civil service member, and as a scholar, researching participatory democracy in Brazil. She has been involved in building digital participation tools within the Brazilian government since 2013, when the project she coordinated, the “Youth Participatory Observatory” received the ARede award for the best public interest content site. Carla is also a member of People Powered Board of Directors, a non-profit organization that is a global hub for participatory democracy.
